Myrtle Beach area maternity sessions, and why I love them
As a mother of three, I know first hand, the bond between a mother and her unborn child is indescribable. As a photographer, this is one of my favorite relationships to capture. I often think of my daughters faces when they look at photos of me when I was pregnant. I know by their expressions, they undoubtedly know how much I loved them even before they were born. Not all photographs speak to us, but the ones that do become the ones we hold dear to our hearts. I want my photos to tell our story, and I want my clients portraits to tell theirs. Establishing a connection, with genuine emotion, between mom, dad, and baby is the best way to capture this. I often ask my moms to be to bring some meaningful things to our session. Clothing, books and booties are a great way to illustrate the relationship you have already established with your baby. I also like to use chalkboards with the babies due date, or wooden blocks with their name to make it even more personal. I think it shows how personal a pregnancy is to the whole family, which is why I always recommend siblings be included in a maternity session. I want my clients and their families to reflect on their portraits and remember not just a photo session, but an illustration of a moment in their lives.
Meet Sarah, our beautiful maternity model.
I was so excited when I received a call from Sarah Alexander who was interested in scheduling a maternity session. She and her husband, Tim, live in Loris SC, which is very close to North Myrtle Beach. She mentioned she liked the idea of having a pier in her portraits, so I suggested the Sea Cabin Pier, just past Cherry Grove, in North Myrtle Beach. We chatted for a while, discussing our ideas and how to incorporate them in her session. We decided on a sunset session and hoped for a warm February day on the Grand Strand. Luckily, it turned out to be a beautiful day, and just a little chilly on the beach. They brought some UNC booties and a book, which had been Sarah’s when she was little. We had a lot of fun capturing the details and telling their story.
